The Capilla de Ánimas was constructed between 1784 and 1788 in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela. Its front façade depicts souls in purgatory. The chapel of souls is number 932 in UNESCO’s list of associated sites of the Caminos de Santiago.
I noticed this scene when we hiked into Santiago but did not take the photo until we had finished the Camino Finisterre and returned to Santiago at the end of our hike. The afternoon was cloudy and overcast. As I was packing up my equipment and loading a new roll of film, an older man walked by with his family. He recognized my old camera and grinned, stirring up memories from decades far gone.
