Rock Cairns, River to Sea Preserve, 2020.
A grouping of cairns built atop coquina rock project towards the ocean at dusk. A faded sunset casts light across the rockface while night swallows the ocean. Breaking waves blur to white.
In between beats there is balance. In between breath there is intention. In between crushed shell there is mystery.
These lessons I’ve learned from my mother; their evidences I’ve seen in this world. The glue is in the unseen, a faith binding shell to shell to form connections equally apart and together. Even in isolation, we have companionship. Even alone, facing the night, we stand with balance and intent.
